Long before he became known as Tony Stark, Robert Downey Jr. established himself as a distinguished actor and presence in Hollywood through a series of roles that may surprise those who only know him as Iron Man. (Yes, that's him in Weird Science, Back to School, Less Than Zero, Chaplin and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, among a number of other memorable films.) Still, when the opportunity arose for him to be cast in Iron Man as a wealthy engineer who becomes a superhero (and eventually the leader of a superpowered team, as seen in Avengers: Endgame), some expressed hesitation about how he might be received.
To assuage those concerns, Downey agreed to 'screen test' for the role, as explained in our exclusive featurette. Appearing on camera and in character as Tony Stark confirmed that the actor was well-suited to portray the multi-faceted aspects of the character that have been explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The video captures the actor's willingness to demonstrate his craft, as well as the joyful reactions by director Jon Favreau and the film's producers.
