As we approach one of the biggest weeks of the year at the box office, now might be a fun time to reach back into the past and talk about our all-time favorite July Fourth blockbusters. Especially since Roland Emmerich, the man who pretty much launched the July Fourth weekend as a haven for blockbusters, returns to theaters this weekend with White House Down. From Independence Day to Transformers to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the movies released during that specific time period beginning at the end of June through early July are typically some of the biggest of the year. But what truly makes for a memorable July Fourth blockbuster, and will this year's crop of movies live up to the sort of big-screen fireworks we've come to expect from the holiday?
