Admit it: When Arnold Schwarzenegger announced his return to acting, you knew it was only a matter of time before someone managed to convince him to return to The Terminator franchise. Good news for fans out there is that it looks like Arnie has agreed to star in at least one more Terminator movie (according to Deadline), and that his agency, CAA, is currently shopping around a Terminator rights package that includes Schwarznegger starring and Justin Lin (Fast Five) directing.

As of this writing several studios are already interested, including Universal (who’s worked with Lin on multiple Fast and Furious movies), as well as Sony, Lionsgate and CBS Films. There’s no script in place yet, and when there is one you can bet it probably won’t pick up where Terminator Salvation left off. Piecing together a package that works on paper is the easy part, in my opinion. Coming up with a story that works for those involved, as well as fans of the franchise, is another extremely difficult task.
Do you go with the post-apocalyptic setting again, or do you return to a present-day storyline? Arnold is older and looks older now, so how do you factor him in? Does he play The Terminator again, or will he return in some other form? What might be cool is if Arnold plays a scientist who created one of the machines, and is then sent back from the future (as a human) to help destroy his creation before it destroys … John Connor, maybe? Someone else?
What do you think? Can this franchise survive another round or two with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the starring role?
