Though the final Hunger Games installment, The Hunger Games -- Mockingjay Part 2, is set for release this November 20, that may not necessarily be the end of the franchise. Lionsgate has announced that in addition to Mockingjay -- Part 2 opening in IMAX 3D, the studio is also considering more Hunger Games movies. Deadline reports that Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed that they are "actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities."
Though currently there are no more Hunger Games books to adapt, there are moments from the books -- tales of past Hunger Games, for example -- that could probably be turned into solo movies potentially including characters from the existing franchise. Considering the franchise has played like gangbusters -- not to mention helped pave the way for more female-driven action movies -- it definitely makes sense to continue telling more Hunger Games-related stories.
For more ways to get your Hunger Games fix prior to Mockingjay -- Part 2, a sixth-month exhibition will open in Discovery Times Square in NYC this July 1 featuring high-tech interactive galleries along with hundreds of costumes and props from the movies. Feltheimer also says the studio is in "significant conversations" with at least one theme park regarding a Hunger Games-themed attraction.
So lots more Hunger Games heading our way in 2015, and it definitely seems like the property will stick around for a while following its big-screen finale this November. Would you want to see a prequel or a sequel if more movies are made?
