Get ready for galloping Grown Ups.

Buried in a trade story Thursday about Adam Sandler moving his next comedy from Sony to rival studio Paramount, it was mentioned that the comedian might be planning a Western with his pals.

Now Deadline is confirming that The Ridiculous 6 – a riff on The Magnificent Seven, I assume – will be Sandler's next picture, which he’ll co-write (with Tim Herlihy), produce and star in. We have to expect that his familiar cohorts, from Kevin James to Chris Rock and David Spade, will saddle up for 6, which Deadline says already is eyeballing a Spring Break 2014 release.

Sandler’s early collaborations with Herlihy produced such oddball comedies as Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Little Nicky and Mr. Deeds. They also worked on The Wedding Singer, which had its share of heart. Herlihy recently teamed with Sandler for the Grown Ups 2 script, so maybe they cooked up an idea worth exploring while hammering out that sequel.

Either way, this will be Sandler’s first attempt at the Western genre. We’ll likely hear more about The Ridiculous 6 as the producers move ahead with casting. Perhaps Sandler will look beyond his close-knit comedic group to cast unfamiliar collaborators, shaking himself out of his comfort zone to find something strange and entertaining. We’ll see soon enough, but for now, what do you think about an Adam Sandler Western?
