The first thing you see when you enter the movie theater is the concession stand, and it's almost impossible to resist. Whether your weakness comes in the form of chocolate or something salty, it's all there: a plethora of goodness right there waiting for you. Well, that's how it was for me when I went to see Fast & Furious 6, anyway. It can be easy to go overboard, so go in with a game plan like this:
• Shop around
Everyone knows movie snacks are costly. See how prices vary at your local theaters. Where one saves money, one can see another film! Don't be afraid to call up to the theaters to get their prices.
• Go for the kid’s combo
At one of our local theaters, they have a kid’s combo that includes popcorn, candy and a drink for $5. It's the perfect size for a single serving. You get your sweet, salty and a drink in one swoop. Not to mention that the drink is kid size, so there is less of a chance you will need a bathroom break and miss that big scene.

• Use your math skills
At one of my theaters, I found out I could get the same combination of nachos, medium popcorn and a medium drink for less when I ordered it a particular way: rather than ordering the popcorn combo with nachos on the side, it turns out to be $1 less to order the nacho combo and the popcorn separately. Money saved is money earned!

Some theaters have a reward program where they give a little back. It could be a special they give to the members only or a discount after you have spent so much. It doesn't hurt to sign up.

With my family, snacking at the theater is always a must for that fully immersive experience. But I want to be able to enjoy the goodies and try to save my wallet a little too. Look for the deals, see if the theater has a reward program that will give back to you, and do a little math at the counter.
