Jalam (Water) is the story of a young couple who dreams of owning a piece of land. They were a part of the Chengara agitation for land and after some time they receive the offer for land in a remote place in Ernakulam. But their dream shatters when they learn that the documents given to them by the minister were bogus and the land belongs to someone else. Though the support of some good Samaritans gives the couple and their young boy a ray of hope, fate has other ideas once Dinakaran, the husband, travels to Chengara to sort things out.
