ED WOOD / MAN ON THE MOON Synopsis

ED WOOD. Director Tim Burton’s unabashed love for his subject makes this 1994 biopic of the director of “the worst movie ever made” (that would be PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE) a perversely uplifting experience, although in reality its title character’s life was anything but happy. Johnny Depp portrays legendary schlock director Ed Wood as an enthusiastic hero of the cinema, a man whose love for moviemaking is so intense that it almost makes the quality of his work irrelevant. MAN ON THE MOON. Audiences never knew quite what to think about Andy Kaufman, and this biopic from the creative team behind THE PEOPLE VS. LARRY FLYNT will also keep you guessing. Jim Carrey earned a Golden Globe for his performance as the late comedian, shifting effortlessly between such Kaufman personas as Latka Gravas of TV’s “Taxi,” lounge singer Tony Clifton and an inter-gender wrestling champion.
