    Sugar

This is only a baseball story on the periphery. What this movie is about is self discovery and the difficulty facing anyone adjusting to a new culture, language and country. Very moving with great character analysis and the english sub-titles were not an obstacle to enjoying the movie. Boden and Fleck show they are rising stars in the screenwriter and directoral arena's. Excellent movie!

    Sugar

An artsy baseball film. Sometimes our dreams lead us to things better than our dreams. Not a classic, but a darn good, little movie.

    Fantastic!!

Sugar was beautiful, heart-felt, realistic. Loved seeing Miguel "Sugar" Santos' journey, from his days in Dominican Republic in the baseball academy to the US playing in the Minor Leagues. You'll see him struggling with the language barrier and people outside of his culture; finding his own identity as a person while being a "product" for the Minor Baseball League. Compelling and it'll make you wonder how the Major/Minor Baseball Leagues recruit these amazing players, going through the process, promises AND the politics behind it all.

Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden are fantastic with story-telling, dialogue and the care with research (back stories of real life ballplayers) to tell this story so perfectly. And the lead actor (can't remember his name right now) was amazing, considering this is his first acting role. Highly recommended!!
