This weekend sees Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan land in theaters with a whole lot of Oscar buzz surrounding it. The film, which stars Natalie Portman as a ballerina suffering through personal and professional problems as she prepares for a very big performance, has been hailed as one of the best (and craziest) of the year, with Portman looking to be a clear frontrunner for multiple Best Actress nominations throughout awards season. Will the role be enough to snag her an Oscar? We'll have to wait awhile to find that out, but in the meantime we thought it might be fun to look back over Portman's career and ask you which five roles of hers are your favorite. Here, I'll go first …
Black Swan, Natalie Portman
Your right about the Star Wars films, but i think the costumes werent the only reason she was good in them. she also brought a lot of emotion into the films. Maybe not episode 1 and 2, but definetely episode 3 because she was great in that film
Are you kidding, who cares about the role, watching Natalie Portman is enough. Beautifully talented actress.
I think the Star Wars Prequel trilogy was the first I heard of Natalie Portman...
I saw Black Swan last night and her performance is stunning. I actually needed a drink to settle my shock at her ability to act her decent into madness so seamlessly realistic. She is this generation's Streep. She certainly should win the Oscar.
What about the short by Wes Anderson Hotel Chevalier. I was a prequel to The Darjeeling Limited which is one of my top 5 all films. It was a short piece but she was great in it.
Le Petit Chinois
I liked her in the SNL short where she goes gangsta rapper. Can be heard on the Lonely Planet album.
V should be in first place. I love her in that role.
I liked all of the above, but my favorite is Brothers.. That movie was the most real movie i've seen in quite some time. It was almost like a documentary!
She was amazing in Brothers. All three of them did a fantastic job showing such a range of emotions! Especially Toby Maguire.
I know it was just amazing....When I saw it the first time I was speechless about it.....and now after watching it a million times more I am still speechless.....Actually today is the one year anniversary of it being released, I believe!
i cant believe i forgot about the film. i love that movie and she was great in it! (so was the rest of the cast)
HEAT with Pacino and DeNiro hands down one of the best police movies ever.
Portman's role in "Where the Heart Is" is worth 10 Star War prequels. I was actually a bit disgusted that she and several other big name actors subjected themselves to the latter. "Beautiful Girls" was a bit part for Portman, but also really well done.
Definetly the Professional and V for Vendetta. I also enjoyed Closer, I'll have to catch Garden State at some point and the Star wars prequels the only one she wasn't whiny and annoying in was Phanbtom Menace all the others she was to Emo for my taste.
Where the Heck are the Midnight Releases of Black Swan?! You would think one of the biggest movies this year would have a freaken' Midnight Release! Unbelevable!
Although it wasn't a huge part, I really liked her in My Blueberry Nights.
I totally agree with the very first person who on here who suggested & came up with the idea of The Professional 2 with Natalie Portman in main role. U sir are a GENIUS. And I'm not being sarcastic. Well, actually, making a part 2 with Ms. Portman would be a given. But great job on bringing that up!!
Where the Heart Is-hands down!
Beautiful Girls is one of my favorite films with Nat.
Totally! Seen it too many times to count. #1 on my list with The Professional a very close second.
YES! I watch it everytime it's on TV
Anywhere but here, The professional, Where the heart is.
Dude why don’t they make a Professional 2. Now that she is all grown up. Make it gritty like the first one (and she can totally pull it off) not chezzy like most assassin movies. You can go ahead and forward me the check it will kill at the box office!!!
PS cant ague with any of your choices all good movies.
Been hoping for that for years now. I believe it would clean up for sure. Premise ideas? I always thought that Le Femme Nikita (the original) was a portrayal of Portman's character, making The Professional sort of a prequel, probably not though.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
