Well it looks like those Avengers can be defeated after all. Following a triumphant multi-week run at the top of the box office where it broke all sorts of records, The Avengers has finally dropped down to number two as the ever-reliable Will Smith and his Men in Black 3 took over the top spot at the box office with $70 million. The Avengers definitely gave it a good shot, finishing in second place with $46.9 million, while Battleship ($13.8 million), The Dictator ($11.8 million) and Dark Shadows ($9.4 million) rounded out the top five. In sixth place is the week's other new wide release, Chernobyl Diaries, which couldn't quite find enough of an audience to push it above $9.3 million.

Those are the dollars, but what about the critics? At Rotten Tomatoes, Men in Black 3 was also one of those rare summer blockbusters that does well financially and with critics. It sits at 67% Fresh, with Chernobyl Diaries at a dismal 25% Rotten. Though it wasn't a wide release, I'm including Moonrise Kingdom just because. Wes Anderson's latest opened to a dynamite per-screen average of $130,749, raking in $522,996 from only four theaters! [via Box Office Mojo] Plus it currently sits on Rotten Tomatoes with a 96% Fresh. Those are the sorts of numbers that grants it a spot in today's post, so if you did manage to see Moonrise Kingdom at one of those four theaters, definitely let us know what you thought.

Alright folks, you know the drill. Sound off below in our polls and comments and tell us what you thought of the week's new releases.

MIB3 was excellent, had a strong foundation storyline and my first time seeing the Men In Black saga franchise. Awesome Cast: Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin (as young Agent K) really delivered/shine through their Roles. Look forward to a MIB4!! Great job.
