Hey, smile -- it's the weekend! And while the summer movie season means every weekend is a good time to go to the movies, this weekend in particular serves up some very different and worthwhile entertainment. Are you in the mood for silly animated animals off on another adventure, or are you looking for a darker, more adult tale about the beginnings of life and the creepy aliens that come along with it? Whatever floats your boat, there's something for everyone now playing at your local theater. Let's take a closer look ...
Prometheus
What's the Scoop: A sorta-prequel to Ridley Scott's Alien, Prometheus follows rag-tag group of scientists, engineers and tough guys on an outer space mission to meet up with other lifeforms that may or may not hold the key to our beginnings as human beings. Yeah, good luck with that!
Why It Might Win the Weekend: Well, for one, chalk this one up as being worth the 3D. The film is absolutely stunning, visually, and the 3D works perfectly in conjunction with the film's vast alien landscapes and technological horror. Plus the story's pretty cool too.
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
What's the Scoop: Our favorite adventurous animals are back for this third installment which finds them joining a traveling circus in europe as a means of getting home to New York City.
Why It Might Win the Weekend: The Madagascar series is popular enough that they've made three of them so far, plus this summer hasn't really served up a healthy dose of entertaining family fare yet, which Madagascar 3 is ... and then some.
My Prediction: Prometheus got off to strong start and is looking at a $50 million weekend at the box office, but will that be enough to beat the Madagascar gang? I think it will be. My vote goes to Prometheus for the win.
My Pick of the Week: C'mon, if you're any kind of fan of the Alien franchise, you gotta go with Prometheus. Grab someone who loves to get their scare on, and go have a blast watching Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi.
Alright folks, I've got a few movies to go watch, so now I leave it to you: Which film do you think will win the weekend box office?

Prometheus was our first 3D and we are still trying to decide if we like it. I'm leaning towards mediocre. It was a confusing plot line. I really wanted the tall one to be nice...

Yes I agree, Prometheus left a lot to be desired. It has some good things and potential but over all feels unfinished and as if it is missing an additional 40 minutes of quality, useful footage. That said, as is, the movies is a disappointment to me. I had such high expectations for it. It needed more character development with the crew mates and it needed to delve into the Engineers more and possibly show them further, maybe some good ones (if there were any). 7/10 about sums it up for me. I expected something around a 9/10 however

Are we SERIOUSLY going to pit a blockbuster like Prometheus against a "let's wring every penny we can out of the soccer moms" movie like Madagascar 3? For real? Visualize a Ridley Scott facepalm right here --> <--. And for the record, those of you that think Prometheus is "weak" and full of plot holes... maybe you should pay closer attention. No, it doesn't come right out and explain everything. It requires a little thought (which I know many aren't accustomed to these days). But all the answers are there. Brilliantly put together. After all the sour reviews, I was expecting a letdown, but I wasn't disappointed in the least.

Well put Cliff ! Ditto !! I read many reviews before seeing Prometheus, taken with a grain of salt; -spoilers didn't spoil -believe me! Save nit-pickers and ho-hummers ... This movie is awesome in all respects. The 3D IMAX is the best. Prometheus makes you think! -and question. Enjoy this one on the big screen, it's fun and it's worth it.

I went to see Prometheus today and let me tell you...It was awesome. It did a great job in telling how the aliens came to be. It was a movie to explain all of the alien movies. The acting was awesome. The visualization was spectacular!!! I can't wait to see the next installment!!!

Prometheus was fantastic in a number of ways. Saw it at IMAX 3D and the visuals and sound was nothing less than stunning. When Prometheus landed you could feel more than hear the sounds of the engines vibrating inside you. As a big fan of the first Alien movie I was completely satisfied with how they handled the continuity between the two. And the stage was also nicely set for a really nice sequel.

Prometheus was weak and I was looking forward to seeing it. Compared to the Alien movies I would say it wasn't even on the level of Alien 3. JUNK and really not worth the money

PROMETHEUS 3D = One of the best films ever made! #REAL.TALK
The movie does look good in 3D. I saw it in IMAX and definitely one of it's redeeming points for the experience,m too bad the actual film was subpar.

Prometheus: major disappointment! Terrible script, confusing plot and , as a consequence, medicre acting.

Maybe you watched the wrong movie or perhaps you took a wrong turn to the screen showing 'Top Cat'
It needs an extended edition, with I'd say an additional 40 minutes.

Prometheus was an awesome sci fi flick, it starts slow but when it turns around it really turns. The visuals are spectacular, The acting was good in special Fassbender and Naomi. The only problem I had was that it left me wanting more, some things were hanging and made me want a sequel right away so it can explain me a couple of things.

Prometheus I thought was terrible! Was starting to like those kinds of movies but that one set me way back.
