Watch: Beautiful 'Les Miserables' Trailer, Bruce Willis Lays 'The Favorite,' and E.T. Phones Home

Did you have any doubts about the hiring of The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper to helm the stage-to-screen adaptation of the Broadway sensation Les Miserables? Allow this new, spectacular trailer to ease all of your fears … and ramp up anticipation for the December release.

Hooper, who won the best director Oscar for Speech, tackles a fresh adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical that will take most of its cues from the book score by Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Herbert Kretzmer (as opposed to Victor Hugo’s classic novel). His cast is sensational: Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe as Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, respectively; Anne Hathaway as Fantine; and Amanda Seyfried as Fantine’s daughter, Cosette. It’s Hathaway, though, who contributes a haunting rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” to this teaser clip, which really sets the mood.

Les Miserables will be in theaters on Dec. 14, and appears to be prepping for a serious Oscar run. Watch the clip, enjoy the latest poster, and share your thoughts below.

With all the news yesterday, you might easily have missed the new trailer for Bruce Willis and Rebecca Hall’s Sundance film Lay the Favorite. The Las Vegas-set dramedy from Stephen Frears (High Fidelity, The Queen) looks so promising, we’re compelled to share it again. Hall’s accent alone is going to get us into theaters. Factor in a vampy turn by Catherine Zeta-Jones, and this could be a sleeper hit. Favorite streets later this year.

Finally, this was too good not to share. Universal plans to release a Blu-ray version of Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece E.T. in October (at a date to be revealed later). In preparation, the studio shared this trailer promising a reproduction from original 35MM film stock and “hours” of bonus footage. And no guns have been polished away via digital effects. Grab a bag of Reese’s Pieces and check out the trailer below:

What a comedown from The King's Speech! Ugly, sentimental, and tuneless. Not a film on which I will waste a second of time.

I love Les MIz and do get chills hearing the music. However, as much as I think Anne H. is a beautiful actress, her voice is not that powerful or has as much depth as it should for this part. I hope I am wrong as looking forward to movie.

A trailer does not a movie make! Let's wait and see. More often than not transferring Broadway to the screen just doesn't make it but there is the rare exception (Chicago comes to mind) that equals the Broadway effort, and there are a few others as well. Hope it is great but the show is in the music and if that fails................

I have the chills watching this and hearing the music. This is Oscar material for sure. I saw the last Les Miz here in St Louis at the Fox three years ago and it was even better than the previous ones, but this movie will be fantastic! A great cast. I can hardly wait until December...what a Christmas treat this is going to be!

I just watched this trailor, Hathaway sings here and her voice is NOT strong or good enough to pull this off, she sounded weak and washed out, ugh. Live in NYC, saw the original Broadway production twice years ago, it was amazing! Hollywood actors cannot pull this off, even after they do 30 or more takes (haha sad but true) for each scene, BUT Broadway actors do it LIVE night after night with much more awesome voices and talent. This should have been left alone and not made again, cannot compare to the stage version's talents.

The Les Mis movie was already made, Uma Thurman was in it, the entire cast was excellent, WHY do they have to remake everything? Yes Hugh Jackman is great, but again, WHY do they have to remake everything when it's already been done, it's ridiculous.

That version wasn't a musical. It was a very good movie though.

I'm so there!!! Seen it on Broadway, read the book, heard the radio version, seen it with Liam Neeson... die hards. This looks like it will do Les Mis some justice!

I saw the bway play , & though rare amongs opinions, did not care for it. The film versions however where rich, which I feel the musical did not portray. Couldn't understnand how anyone could get the essence of the story from the musical, having seen both the original Victor Hugo version, and the updated one with Liam Neison. Love Hugh Jackman in just about anything. This looks interesting & I do hope there is dialogue, and was done as good as the film version of Phantom, which I enjoyed. Hugh Jackman has a great voice. missed him in his Boy from Oz show, cause Im not a big fan of show toons, per se. Doesn't deflect his singing chops. Can't wait to see this

i hope i'm wrong about this I saw the revival of Les Miz on Broadway a few years ago. While the critics were less than supportive, i thought it was great. The story is great--but the music is what makes it unforgettable. So the cast must be able to sing Rather than Hathaway, i would have had Lea Michelle or similar. The music will bring you to tears.

I agree. I think Hathaway has a lovely voice but I wonder if its strong enough to pull off 'I Dreamed a Dream'. It looked like an intense scene and it was only a snippet so we'll see. I've already heard Lea Michelle's version on 'Glee' and her voice can definitely carry the song.

Lea Michele's version on Glee was a duet. She's too young for the role of Fantine. She's much more of an Eponine.
