'Twilight' Scribe Stephenie Meyer Bringing 'Down a Dark Hall' to the Silver Screen

Expect copies of Lois Duncan’s Down a Dark Hall to start flying off the shelves at your nearest library. 
 
That’s because Twilight scribe Stephenie Meyer has just put her considerable muscle behind the 1974 Young Adult novel and intends to bring it to the big screen through her production company Fickle Fish. 
 
The story broke in Variety, prompting Meyer to take to her official blog and comment on her deep passion for Duncan’s book and the nightmares it gave her as a 9-year-old reader.
 
“Not too much information to share as yet,” Meyer admits, “but even in this early stage, it is still very exciting. I grew up reading and loving Lois Duncan novels, and I can't believe my good luck that I get to be involved with this project. Down a Dark Hall was my favorite of her novels (though it's a very close race with Summer of Fear and Stranger with My Face) and it gave me some serious nightmares when I was nine. I will have more information on my Fickle Fish site for those interested when there is more to share. These things are very slow moving, though, so it will probably be a while.”
 
The main character in the book is 14-year-old Kit Gordy, who enrolls in a creepy boarding school named Blackwood and is shocked to find out she is one of only four students. The story takes several supernatural turns as spirits from beyond the grave begin communicating through the four Blackwood students and … well, I’ll leave it up to you to find out.
 
Meyer’s being honest when she says that these things can take time, so we might not hear any casting news for months. Still, the author’s fans have plenty of Meyer-related material to keep them entertained while they wait. 
 
For starters, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 concludes the massive series on Nov. 16, sending Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner off into the sunset after four major blockbusters. Meyer is also busy producing an adaptation of her novel The Host, which hopes to be in theaters on March 29, 2013.
 
Could Down a Dark Hall follow soon after? Once we know, we’ll share with you.
