Earlier today, a 24-year-old lone gunman brought at least three guns, a gas mask, tear gas and a bulletproof vest into a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado and opened fire during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises. As of last count, 12 people are dead and at the time of this writing, 71 58 injured. According to reports, the suspect's name is James Holmes. He was born in 1987 and has no prior police incidents, save for one traffic ticket last year.
President Obama was "shocked and saddened" to hear the news, saying, "We are committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded. As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family." The theater is located approximately 15 miles away from Littleton, Colorado, where in 1999 two kids shot up Columbine High School, killing 13 and wounding a dozen others. At this time there is no relation between the two shootings.
Warner Bros. has canceled tonight's Paris premiere of The Dark Knight Rises in the wake of the shooting, while the cast has canceled all interviews. In a statement released to the media, the studio said, "Warner Bros. is deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time.”
Our hearts go out to all impacted by this tragedy.

Ordered tix online, received tix. At NewRoc theatre in New Rochelle, we were told movie (To Rome with Love, was cancelled. Suggested that at ONE theatre in multiplex might show it. No, All theatres in multiplex were showing Dark Knight! Money back -OK? No,not ok. Why this sudden rush to Batman?? Was it interest in the film? Or a kind of sick interest in the recent shooting? Still outraged, Joan Scheuer

Don't know if I'll see the Dark Knight, not out of fear or anything just because my family probably didn't want to see it. I pray to the Lord for all of the families that lost someone in the shooting. It's awful to know that a wonderful place such as the theater has been turned into something people are afraid of, a place for violence. It can happen anywhere though, to be honest. I'm not going to stay inside my house for the rest of my life because I know this could happen anywhere at any time. Movies these days are worse off then some of the movies back in the day, but people have grown and their interests have changed. Some people just can't tell the difference between reality and entertainment. I don't exactly blame Hollywood for that.
But Hugo proved us one thing happy endings don't always only happen in the movies
That's one of the reasons I loved Hugo. Thought it should have won the Oscar. Anyone, thanks for replying. I appreciate it. :)
Don't know if I agree with you but Hugo surprised me just when I thought one of my daddy's favorite movie directors could not be trusted to provide me entertainment for the young at heart that would join the best such as the movies of Shirley Temple as classics. Plus the title characters story is similar in a minor way to Selina (Anne Hathaway). Hugo is semi great

Wont be seeing Dark Knight. There is evil assiociated with this movie. Hollywood is out of control with the violence and evil they are producing in movies. What ever happened to musicals like Oklahoma or westerns where the good guys win, like True Grit(not the recent one, the original with John Wayne). The movies now are dark and lines between good and evil are blurred. It is not in fear that I won't see Dark Knight but a stand against evil. This is not the Batman and Robin of yours and my childhood, no my friends, it's satans version and we have seen the result.
Or movies of Shirley Temple

I grew up with the Movies being part of my life. It was always a peaceful place for me when the world was not, the calmness at the movies. Now it won’t be that way. I grew up with Batman the fact Bruce Wayne’s parents are killed in a similar way strikes a chord with me. These people were vulnerable and trusting like children that most of them were. Now this fear will spread to other Theaters and consume them. I want to see that film as many times as I can now just to defy peoples fear, I already loved the film but now it has this message, this sick man can’t have our theaters by standing up we can remember those he killed and wounded and destroy his identity, we will not fear we will rise up we will endure.
I agree competely my godmother said the same thing we can't live out in fear even if we live the a dark scary world the Batman movies have always portrayed for the last seven years
Don't live in fear, this was one man if we show the world we are scared of this one man and stop going to things we enjoy well this is not America anymore. I went to a Midnight Showing with people in Costumes Jokers were dancing in the streets in a Thunderstorm and rain people were dressed in Gotham SWAT gear. But where I was Regal is alot better about security no masks and people check you going in and out doors are always visible. Along with Cops outside most people don't wear masks common sense and must leave them in the car along with props. once the line is inside SWAT costumes come off or checked by cops.
Glad to hear you were safe

Could Fandango set something up so we could all donate a few dollars (if we select "yes") when we purchase Batman tickets to support the victims of Friday's tragic shooting. Also, theaters could place donation boxes for movie goers. I saw Batman last night and several people I talked to agreed that they would love to contribute and wished there were something in place for the Batman ticket buyers to do so. Would love some support helping to implement this idea. Thank you!
I actually like that idea
That is a great idea. Hopefully we could help move the idea forward.
I think donations are awesome I'm in favor of donating money to charity although I'm 19 and new to paying my own money
I think that's an great ideal: Cinama's theatre's setting up a Batman ticket donation boxes for us movie goers to help out that way for the Families affected by this senseless act.
Yeah kept hearing all month on Internet Movie Database
Do you all understand what I'm saying
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
"Squirrel!"
