Sound Off is a weekly theater-related discussion post here at Fandango where we talk about the past, present and future of moviegoing.
There's been an influx of stories recently featuring movie theaters attempting to think outside the box when it comes to entertaining moviegoers, not just with films, but in the way they present them. We've always been big fans of those creative folks from the Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas who are always coming up with unique screening scenarios, both inside their theaters and outside during their famous Rolling Roadshow program (in which they travel to locations and screen films that share a theme with said location). But what about movie theaters physically transforming themselves to offer an even more unique experience?
Recently a theater in Thailand that floats on water made the news, as well as TGV Cinemas in Malaysia, which retrofitted their theaters with comfy bean-bag chairs. In the UK they actually have something called Hot Tub Cinema, where you join others on a rooftop and sit in hot tubs while watching a film. At Australia's Underground Cinema, you sign up for a film but don't know where it's going to be screened (a warehouse, a forgotten ballroom, a carpark) or who's going to be there when you show up (several screenings feature live performances).
These are just a few of the ways theaters are thinking outside the box in order to give moviegoers a more unique and immersive experience. So in light of these seriously cool ideas, I thought this week I'd ask for the coolest movie theater you've ever been to. It doesn't have to be as eclectic as the above examples -- it could be as simple as a local multiplex that tried something different for a night -- but I'd definitely like to hear which theaters are exploring new ways to entertain. I bet our Fandango readers are also curious too. So, with that said ...
Sound Off: What's the Coolest Movie Theater You've Ever Been To?

FOR ME THE COOLEST MOVIE THEATER IS EL CAPTAIN IN LOS ANGELES.
I KNOW RIGHT!!!
A "cool" movie theater in amerika??? I travel all over the world and amerika is the last place to find a cool theater. Stuck in the mud, prudish, think inside the box, corporate sink-hole. Sticky, dirty cinemas. I find all the cool cinemas OUTSIDE amerika, the usa corporations want your money and are not about to give you a nice theater experience for it, just the minimum legal requirement of what you paid to get, "a movie". Just barely enough so you can't sue them.
You sound like a ****. If you travel all over the world than I'm sure you know it's spelled America. And I don't know where you've been going but we've got good ones as well as bad ones. For the record, every corporation wants your money. Not just in America.
Wow, you don't even know how to say America.
Idaho doesn't have any cool theaters except one IMAX but they did haul an acual print and projector to play the highest quality and biggest screening of Dark Knight Rises in the Northwest.
So, you go in and it was like a bar and theatre combination. the floors were raised and servers came to your seats from under the floor. The seats were assigned. You paid a few bux more for a cushy shabby chic type chair or a regular sofa or chair was available. During the previews & movie, servers would come to you if you pressed your light. You could also order through the table screen much like the Virgin America flight experience now. Everyone had headsets but the place was very respectfully quiet anyway. It felt a bit like a private theater at a fancy home that was well staffed and able to attend to most sensible requests. To sum it up, it was like going to a nice party and enjoying a movie while being spoiled and pampered.
What theater was this, or where?
AMC Lowes Water Fornt cause of the revserved seating and CarMike 10 cause of the way they redid the Theater bye adding soda fountain Mechinas those are my coolest Movie Theaters
My theater near me (Century 12 & Xd) has a Starbucks in it! Its always nice to get a Frappchino or Iced Coffee when I see a movie!
The coolest movie theatre I've been to is the Anaheim Gardenwalk theatre I went to see UP in 3D three years ago. It had an indoor box office lots of cool snacks and really cool designed auditorium. Do you guys recommend somewhere cool in Southern California i should go to a movie
For me, I loved the El Captain theater when I saw The Muppets! It was roomy, nice, had loud sound, and a giant screen! I always enjoy going too Cinemark's Xd (Im going too see FN 3d there later tonight!). It is alot like an imax and it is right near me!

I would love to go to Archlight Cinemas, but sadly there are none where I live. But I would love to go there sometime!
That's okay. Me neither I don't usually drive all the way to LA even though I live 30 minutes away from the coolest city ever just an exaggeration
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
