A month before 21 Jump Street had even hit theaters, star Jonah Hill had revealed that a sequel was already in the works. Of course, at the time, no one could have predicted what a massive critical and commercial success the film would be. Since then, we hadn't heard much in the form of updates regarding the sequel until today when Sony chief Doug Belgrad said the film would shoot this fall.
What makes the news surprising isn't that a sequel is gearing up to shoot, but rather how they plan to work Channing Tatum in, considering his busy schedule. Tatum is getting set to shoot Roland Emmerich's White House Down next month as well as prepping for the Wachowski Brothers' Jupiter Ascending. He's also attached to star in Bennett Miller's Foxcatcher and is also developing a Magic Mike Broadway show for next summer, along with a sequel to that movie.
It seems all the main pieces will be back as directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will also return, despite being busy crafting Lego: The Piece of Resistance.
While Men in Black 3 has been a modest success domestically, the film has cashed in internationally, earning more than $400 million and boosting the worldwide tally to $615 million. Though the production was fraught with delays and disputes, it seems that once again, money talks and a fourth film is being planned.
Director Barry Sonnenfeld has hinted that the ending of the third movie would leave the door open to a reboot or a continuation of the franchise. Which direction Sony decides to go remains to be seen, but Belgrad said, "We're very pleased with the financial performance of Men in Black 3, and we believe it is an ongoing franchise. We're going to do [another one], but we don't have clarity yet on how it should be done."
For those who thought Joe Johnston just didn't get Jumanji right the first time, Sony is giving the film another shot. The studio is going to "try and reimagine Jumanji and update it for the present."
For those who have forgotten the movie that came out almost 20 years ago, Jumanji follows two kids who unleash a host of dangers while playing a board game.
You can bet Sony will beef up the reboot with 3D and lots of merchandising, the question is, are you remotely interested in a Jumanji reboot?

I'm looking forward to the next "21" (and "Magic Mike" while we're at it). I don't see the point in rebooting MIB, why not just have Will Smith pick up a new protege (like his character was) then continue it with them. Good grief I'm old! 20 years, sheesh. I loved "Jumanji" as it was.
Let me say that John Carter deserves a sequel more then 21 Jump Street while John Carter is an excellant movie the opposite is true for 21 Jump Street because that was one of the worst movies this year along with the Dictator. On Jumanji i am going to reserve judgement until i know who will be in the movie and if its a sequel or a remake of the original movie which i thought was very good.
John Carter was horrible I wish never spend money on it, but to me Jump 21 was funny and enjoyable.
I really liked both movies and think that both deserve sequels. John Carter left off where there could be a sequel, it's sad that it wasn't a box office success which will probably keep a sequel from happening.
Just watched Jumanji yesterday. Great flick. I hope the 21 Jump Street sequel is filmed here to. Would love to work on that one. I really enjoyed that flick!
I thoroughly enjoyed 21 Jump Street and look forward to the sequel.
Must we do more sequels that are not necessary. Also what is wrong with Jumanji does not need a remake also let me add the same to Total Recall. Classic moments in Total Recall. "Consider this a divorce." Why is it so hard to come up with an original idea.
I thought Jumanji was great the way it is...
I thought Jumanji was great!
I haven't seen Jumanji since I was a little kid crying in the theater for it.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
