Shock of Ages? Katie Holmes Divorces Tom Cruise After Five-Year Marriage

After five years of marriage, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are filing for divorce.
 
According to a statement released by Holmes’s attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, this is "a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," adding that Katie's primary concern "remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
 
The couple has one daughter together, 6-year-old Suri Cruise. 
 
Tom Cruise’s representatives issued a follow-up statement to People magazine stating, "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy."
 
While this was Holmes’s first marriage, it is the third for Cruise to end in separation, having split (famously) with Nicole Kidman and, earlier, Mimi Rogers. 
 
The Cruise-Holmes relationship interested us from a film and business angle. Though rumors consistently swirled around the couple’s relationship as a business proposal that somehow would benefit both of their careers, that hardly ended up being the case. Holmes still has yet to find a blockbuster movie property, while Cruise has had his usual string of massive hits (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Tropic Thunder) and misses (Lions for Lambs, Rock of Ages) since the couple wed in 2007.

    I am not surprised at all.....I'm happy Katy woke up....he got himself involved in Scientology and it messed him up....but he is a good actor but screwy...he was awesome in Rock of Ages....He does or did seem too controlling........good luck to Katy...I'm hoping we will see more of her.

    I can't say that I am surprised about Tom and Katy. He seemed too controlling, and demanding. I feel for their little daughter the most of all.

    I am not really surprised. Considering Tom was really holding Katy down professionally. I say way to go Katy for breaking away from someone so demanding.

    I am so sorry to hear about Tom Cruise and Katy Holme, I thought they were a good match. Tom might be having trouble because of his deep roots in Sicentology, at anyrate I hope that they will both find happiness and stay friend's for the sake of their daughter.
