Scoop This: Highlander Remake, Viggo Doesn't Quit and Little Miss Sunshine Musical

The film, which features an immortal Scottish swordsman named Connor MacLeod who must confront a brutal barbarian that's just like him, will no doubt get the swanky Hollywood treatment – and since Summit is the studio behind the Twilight films, look for them to bring on a hot young cast that may or may not feature Robert Pattinson in a lead role. Do I see Pattinson as a Scottish warrior? Not really … but I bet he'd sell tons of tickets.

 

 

A couple weeks ago, word got out via an interview with Viggo Mortensen that the actor was possibly retiring from acting to pursue something else (after all, he's done a lot more than act – Mortsensen's also a photographer, poet and jazz musician). Good news for you Mortensen fans, though, is that the star of films like Lord of the Rings, A History of Violence and the upcoming The Road is not quitting the business…yet.

 

Speaking to reporters while doing press for The Road during the Toronto International Film Festival, Mortensen had this to say (via Collider): "I don't have any plans to quit, despite what media people say. I don't know why, they must be bored right now," he calmly rebuffed with a hint of a smirk. "I consider it a fortunate profession, to be able to make a living and tell a story. It's a privilege". As a huge fan of the man's work, I'm more than happy to hear he's not ditching the biz anytime soon. Now if we can just get a cameo from him in The Hobbit, we'll be all set...

 

 

After the small indie fan favorite caused quite the stir a couple years back, it looks like it might be time to revive it on stage as a musical. But not so fast – Little Miss Sunshine: The Musical won't be making a big Broadway splash just yet. Instead, it's been selected to participate in the Sundance Institute Theatre Lab, which is a program that will help the musical's creators workshop what they've got in the hopes that it will eventually find a home.

 

From the press release: "Under the guidance of Producing Artistic Director Philip Himberg, more than 85% of the work coming out of the Program's labs has found professional production at theatres across the United States, Mexico and Europe. Recent productions of Sundance-developed work include: Passing Strange by Stew and Heidi Rodewald, which won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical and Grey Gardens by Doug Wright, Scott Frankel and Michael Korie."

 

The Little Miss Sunshine musical features music and lyrics from William Finn (Falsettos), with book and direction from James Lapine (Falsettos, A New Brain and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).
