While speaking at a public screening of Prometheus footage in London on Tuesday, director Ridley Scott had some choice words for the Motion Pictures Association of America (aka MPAA).
Scott said that he wanted Prometheus to get a rating, "that allows it to make as much money as possible. I know the importance of that. When a big film fails, it's disastrous for all of us." He also expressed some frustration with the MPAA saying, "Some of the films this year that have got PG-13 ratings – it's absolutely f**king ludicrous. So MPAA, get your house in order."
In an interview with Empire last month, he conceded that the rating makes a huge difference.
"The question is, do you go for the PG-13, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Financially it makes quite a difference, or the risk makes quite a difference, and yet you also have to apply the question – if you soften it, will you financially suffer? As opposed to just going for the throat and gambling. Essentially, it's kinda R."
He added that, "It's not just about the blood, it's about ideas that are very stressful. I'm not an idiot, but I'll do everything I can to get the most aggressive film I can."
Part of that mentality will be seen in a sequence Scott teased. At the London footage event, Scott he said that there is a sequence he calls, "the equivalent to Alien's chest-burster scene." Rather than being a group, it will only feature Rapace's character. The rest stays a surprise for now.
Are you hoping for an R-rated Prometheus or do you think they'll soften the film for a PG-13 rating to allow more people to watch?
Ridley Scott, Prometheus
Well honestly i think scott's got a point i mean the man obviously wants to make a movie so why not raid it PG-13 i mean in raiding it a R that would subject a lot of money from the younger age group 17 and under taking out a huge profit Scott of making

Go R or go home. I waited a long time to be able to see the cool R rated movies and now they are all PG-13. What's up with that?
It should be what Ridley Scott wrote and shot it to be. If he started in pre-production and said "let's aim for the PG-13", I would be fine with it being PG-13. But knowing that he shot it as an "R" rated movie, if Fox makes him cut it down I would be very disappointed. I think no matter what the rating, this will be big at the box office.
I'm not saying it must have an "R" rating to be successful, but it would allow more flexibility with the content and, for the genre it's in especially, make it a "better" movie overall.
I agree. It's in the realm of Alien - an excellent movie shouldn't suffer an fall because of a rating - the fans will go and see it.
If "Prometheus" isn't "R" rated, then what's the point.
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
