Poll: Would a '2012' TV Series Be Too Depressing?

On November 13th, Roland Emmerich's latest end-of-the-world epic hits theaters, and it's called 2012. This time around Emmerich isn't using his big budget to fight aliens or global warming – instead, 2012 shows us what happens when the ancient Mayan prophecy springs to life and the world actually comes to an end in the year 2012. Yeah, in case you couldn't tell, this one's a bit of a downer.

But that's not stopping Emmerich, writer Harold Kloser and producer Mark Gordon from wanting to extend 2012 to the small screen for a tie-in TV series about what happens after the world is destroyed. Entertainment Weekly reports that all those involved are strongly considering the television spin-off, and even ABC is looking into possibly using this show to replace Lost, which heads into its final season this January.

So how do you create a TV show about the end of the world after the world already ended in a film? Well, Emmerich thinks they'll pick up in 2013 and focus on a group of survivors who were maybe "on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving." Yeah, so we'll get rid of one lost-on-an-island show and replace it with another. Great idea!

Truthfully, I don't know how excited I am to go watch a show about the end of the world, or what happens after the world ends. Seems like too much of a downer, but perhaps folks find that sort of stuff really entertaining.

DON'T. Just DO NOT. This is the absolute last thing I would ever want to see on television. Give us a 24-hour Teletubbies network. Make 27 seasons of Rock of Love. Take NPH off How I Met You Mother and Jane Lynch off Glee. Just DO NOT MAKE THIS SHOW.
