'New Moon' Destroys Harry Potter on Way to Best Midnight Opening Ever!

By: Erik Davis on November 20, 2009 at 4:09PM Comments (7)

Well, so much for the folks who thought all those negative reviews might impact New Moon's opening box office. Variety tells us that The Twilight Saga: New Moon has shattered records and set box office history by grossing an astonishing $26 million in midnight showings alone. The latest installment in the teen vamp franchise easily beat the previous record-holder, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which grossed $22.2 million earlier this summer.

Next up for New Moon is the opening day record, currently held by The Dark Knight with $67.2 million. It'll take a mighty sword to slay what some claim is the greatest superhero movie of all time, but those Twi-hards have proven to be a resilient bunch. In addition to all the records being broken, our super covert computers here at Fandango Headquarters tell us they've been spitting out a whopping 10 tickets per second all day long. 10 tickets per second! That's insane!

Will New Moon beat The Dark Knight? And if so, just how many records will it break? Make sure you vote in our box office poll, and tune in Monday to see just how much this sucker brought in over the weekend.

Never made a movie from a book has been so faithful to the book as the New Moon. Thanks Chris Weitz, thanks Stephenie Meyer, all actors and all who made this possible. I liked New Moon! Me encanto Luna Nueva!

New Moon the movie was very true to the book. I also thought the acting was much better than in Twilight, but still room for improvement. This is a must see in my opinion and I am sure I will see it several times at the theater before buying the dvd.

I think this movie is way better directed than the first. The only thing I wasn't crazy about is the music. It isn't as good as the music in the first movie. Maybe that has do with the fact that it is a darker movie. Whatever the reason, I won't be buying the CD to this movie. I do think they did a great job following the storyline given how long the book is. In order to get most of the details from the book into the movie, the movie would have to be 18 hours long! I have already seen the movie twice and plan to see it another 2-3 times before buying the DVD when available.

New Moon was excellent, and most importantly well loved by the FANS. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is about what he FANS like not some overrated, opinionated, self proclaimed "critic" who plays God within the movie business. Why do these "critics" exist anyway? Ask the fans, we are the REAL critics!!
