With Natalie Portman the current frontrunner for that Best Actress Oscar for her role in Black Swan (due out this December), look for the gal to be rumored for just about every big movie coming down the pipeline. She's already turned down the sci-fi film Gravity, and it looks like she won't be starring in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, though maybe she'll be up for strapping on her sci-fi skills for the prequel to one of the most beloved horror franchises of all time.
Vulture is reporting that 20th Century Fox is real excited about the latest version of the Alien prequel script turned in by Damon Lindelof ('Lost'), so much so that they're already eying someone for the lead role. And yes, like the previous Alien movies, this one will also prominently feature a female in the main role; a female the studio is hoping will be played by Natalie Portman, who's at the top of their list along with newcomer Noomi Rapace from the Swedish Dragon Tattoo movies.
Whoever the lead female turns out to be, they'll be playing some sort of general in the film, which takes place roughly 30 years before the events of the first Alien movie. This one, to be directed by Ridley Scott, will focus on where the alien creatures came from and how they may have been created in order to be used as weapons. Obviously Portman is the more well-known option, but does she have the chops to go all hardcore action hero? What do you think?
