Marvel Eyeing Tom Welling for Comic Book Adaptation

By: Derrick Deane on May 11, 2011 at 3:55PM Comments (7)

Following his 10-year stint as DC Comic's Clark Kent/Superman on the CW series Smallville, Tom Welling is looking for new roles, and one of them might have him jumping to a rival company. Marvel Studios reportedly has Welling on its radar for an upcoming adaptation of one of their comic books. But which one remains a mystery.

Currently, Marvel has adaptations for Doctor Strange, Runaways and Deathlok on the horizon. It is also possible that Welling may re-team with Smallville producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar for Quartermain, an adaptation of H. Rider Haggard's novel, King Solomon's Mines, which has Sam Worthington featured as the lead.
There are, of course, a seemingly endless list of characters in the Marvel Comics universe, so with that in mind, we turn the comments section over to you. What Marvel character do you think Mr. Welling should play? Doctor Strange? Deathlok? One of the Runaways? Or someone completely different?
Also, check out the trailer for the series finale of Smallville, which airs this Friday, May 13th.

DC is making a big mistake if they let Tom Welling go. They already screwed up by not transfering him to the big screen as Superman. I do have some understanding the Tom wants to do something different. Maybe even playing a villian is something that he might be looking for.

Nope.He wouldn't fit because Zach Snyder is making a big physical superman and Small vile is different from what he is trying to do.

Consider this: If Zach Snyder is taking it in a differant directrion, maybe it is the wrong direction and DC should have gone for a Smallville-esque Superman film starring Tom Welling? I think that's closer to what they were getting at. I'm definately looking forward to Snyder's film, but I agree with the basic idea that finally seeing Welling as Superman rather than the man-who-will-soon-be Superman would be cool.

meh Zach Snyder knows what he's doing, i bet anyone this upcoming Superman movie will be better than the previous one which was a joke it was more of a romantic movie than a superhero movie and i can barely remember Superman throwing at least one punch.Welling just doesnt look manly enough to me..
