The biggest question surrounding Kick-Ass 2 right now is whether Chloe Moretz would reprise her role of Hit Girl. In volume two of the comic book series by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. , which inspired the movie, Hit-Girl ultimately gives up her superhero persona, but director Jeff Wadlow plans to make Hit-Girl, "a major, major part of the film."
According to Millar, Kick-Ass 2 will open with thirty minutes centered on Hit-Girl before shifting focus back to titular Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson). Millar revealed that the film would be broken up into two pieces. Hit-Girl would be the first thirty minutes of the movie and then the next 70 minutes would focus on Kick-Ass.
In an interview with Digital Spy (the conversation includes several spoilers), Millar explained, "Hit-Girl is structured as the first act." At last weekend's Kapow! Comic Convention, Wadlow added that he wanted to explore "what happens to her when she's not being Hit-Girl."
Of course, these plans could hit a major snag if Moretz is unavailable or decides not to return. Since the release of the first Kick-Ass, Moretz has become one of the most sought-after talents of her generation, scoring roles in Martin Scorsese's Hugo, the upcoming Carrie remake and currently starring in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, among a host of other upcoming roles.
Millar seems unconcerned though, saying, "As far as we know everything is scheduled to come back, unless somebody is hit by a bus or something. Chloe has a busy schedule but she has to stop sometime." Wadlow added that he had spoken with Moretz a few days ago and she was "very excited about what we're doing with Hit-Girl."
During the conversation, Millar also let a few other details slip, including the fact that the new movie won't be toned down or cleaned up. "Every horrible scene in the book will be in the film. The c**t line in the first one, everybody said, 'There's no way you're getting that in the movie,' but it happened and it's the same thing with this. Everybody is saying, 'You can't have a gang rape scene with supervillains' and 'You can't have the dog's head cut off,' but every single one of those scenes will go in it.
And while Kick-Ass 3 lays in the distant, uncertain future, Millar said that he has plans for a third volume of his comic book series which will pick up the characters two years after the events of Kick-Ass 2.
