Working in conjunction with Universal Pictures, Regal Cinemas released this extended look behind the scenes of Les Miserables and director Tom Hooper's unique take on the musical. Rather than have the actors go into a studio and pre-record their songs, Hooper had them perform them live on set.
"This has not been done with this kind of consistency in a musical before," Hooper says. "You can tell in your bones that there's something false or unreal about people singing to playback."
Star Hugh Jackman adds, "The idea of singing live is daunting, but what it gives you is this freedom." He then proceeds to start singing a soliloquy from the film then adds, "I can take a little break, I can move on, I can speed it up, I can slow it down, which means I only have to worry about acting it."
Check out the extended look which includes commentary by producers as well as stars Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Samantha Barks, Amanda Seyfried and Eddie Redmayne.
Les Miserables arrives in theaters December 25.
