With September upon us, it definitely feels like the summer movie season has slowly (and somewhat quietly) come to an end. Now, with the fall, we have what some consider to be the strongest of all movie seasons – one packed with several awards contenders from high-profile filmmakers, spooky horror movies and one super popular boy wizard.
Fandango polled more than 1,000 readers and asked them which movie they were anticipating the most this fall. With the exception of their top pick – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I (with a demanding 38%) – the results may surprise you. Coming in at number two was Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, with the sequel to the 1987 film beating out several other popular titles. Apparently Oliver Stone, Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf make for a pretty appetizing trio.
Those who thought the first Paranormal Activity was just a fluke might want to think again since Paranormal Activity 2 came in third place (with 9% of the vote), two spots ahead of its toughest competitor, Saw 3D (6%), with The Social Network (7%) in between. The biggest surprise (in my opinion) was the lack of anticipation for Due Date (8th on the list with only 3%), especially since it's director Todd Phillips' follow-up to the ridiculously popular The Hangover, and because it stars Robert Downey Jr. and Zack Galifianakis … and because it looks hilarious.
Another surprise (considering it's been so popular around these parts) was seeing Christina Aguilera's Burlesque settle for 9th place. Other films that made the list include Easy A (6th place with 5%), Secretariat (7th place with 4%) and Resident Evil: Afterlife (10th place with 3%).
