Following the resurgence of the Muppets franchise, you can't blame Fox for wanting to get in on the puppet game. THR reports that the studio has acquired the rights to Sesame Street and have hired show veteran Joey Mazzarino to write up a script for a full-length movie. Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Night at the Museum) is on board as one of the producers.
The television series has ventured onto the big screen twice before, in 1985's Follow That Bird and 1999's The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Bird starred John Candy, Chevy Chase and Dave Thomas alongside the series' marquee puppets.
No word on when Fox is targeting this film to be released, but considering the script hasn't been written yet, it might be a while before we see Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar and the rest of the Street crew in theaters.

I would LOVE a Sesame movie (and I am almost 40! LOL) ... but I hope Carol Spinney is training someone else to do the iconic voices of Oscar and Big Bird (just in case) because he is really getting up there in age. I am not trying to be mean. It is reality...
"Welcome to the party, pal."
"I am serious... and don't call me Shirley."
"When am I gonna learn how to punch?"
"These go to eleven."
"Benjamin, have you ever been severely beaten about the face & neck?"
"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming."
"You're gonna need a bigger boat."
"Jessica's got cable."
"Squirrel!"
