Fandango Sells 22% of 'Hunger Games' Tickets

If you're a Hunger Games fan, you woke up to some awesome news this morning. The film made a killing opening weekend – as many sites predicted – estimating a $155 million at the box office! As a Suzanne Collins' fan myself, I'm absolutely thrilled this book turned movie became the third best opener, trailing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 and The Dark Knight.

The odds were also in Fandango's favor this past weekend, which sold 22% of opening weekend box office for The Hunger Games. During peak ticket-selling periods, Fandango was selling 17 tickets per second – which makes it our top franchise opener and best-selling March release. March 23 is also going down in our record book for our top-selling single day for a movie, besting The Dark Knight's opening day on July 18, 2008.

On Fandango's top advance ticket sellers of all time, Games ranks second only to Twilight:
1. The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
2. The Hunger Games (2012)
3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
4. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 (2011)
5. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)
