With the success of The Avengers, Marvel president Kevin Feige continues to talk up Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.
In an interview with Empire via Collider, Feige confirmed that Thanos, the extraterrestrial Titan grinning at the mid-credits teaser in The Avengers, will appear as the main villain in future installments, but not for some time. Feige clarified, "There will be a major new villain. A major, major new antagonist."
Meanwhile he shed some light on the plot for Thor 2, saying, "We're going to see the other side of Asgard. It's not all polished and golden in this film. And the events of Avengers will have affected Thor for sure. His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie and Thor returning with Jane Foster."
It should be interesting to see how Jane is integrated back into the Thor storyline after being conveniently whisked away to an island in The Avengers.
Meanwhile, regarding Iron Man 3, Feige said the film will be "Tony's most personal journey since he was trapped in a cave in the first half of the first movie, but it'll also have the largest spectacle of any of the Iron Man movies." And that's saying something considering the over-the-top climax of Iron Man 2.
Iron Man 3 hits theaters May 3, 2013 and will be followed by Thor 2 on November 15, 2013.

As long as either of these movies somehow feature Hank Pym, Wasp or Black Panther so that the entire team can take on Thanos in the future, I'm happy.

By "major" new villain, I'm guessing he means The Mandarin, played by Sir Ben Kingsley.
It has been said that Kingsley could play the Mandarin but in "Iron Man 3" the main villain is supposed to be Mallen and no one knows who is going to take that role yet. Also, they have to tie in the Mandarin into the Extremis storyline somehow in order to make it work.
