Hugh Jackman remains busy on the awards campaign trail for his role as Jean Valjean in Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables. As you likely already know, Jackman picked up a Golden Globe Sunday night for his performance in the blockbuster musical. But Jackman’s other fan base – the one that prefers comic book movies to musicals – will want to see this: The latest photo of Wolverine from the upcoming sequel.
Twentieth Century Fox recently shared this shot, and we now finally have it in hi-res. We’ve seen a few fantastic shots of Jackman looking fit to play the angry mutant. Next, we’d love to see some of his adversaries in the film. And, you know, maybe a trailer?
The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold. It opens everywhere on July 26, and stars this guy:
- From Marvel’s perspective, this year belongs to Iron Man 3 (May 3) and Thor: The Dark World (Nov. 8), but that doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead to the anticipated sequel to Captain America. Set in modern times, the next Cap film will introduce new villains and new allies for Chris Evans’ hero. And Anthony Mackie of Gangster Squad, who’ll play Cap’s new partner, has details.
Mackie’s character, comic fans will know, is The Falcon, and in an interview with AICN, he spilled some costume details.
"I will have wings. I will be able to fly. I will be a superhero and fight people, namely The Winter Soldier,” Mackie said. “It was funny; a lot of the research I found was online. My older brother was a huge comic book buff. So when the news came out online, he called me and just gave me the whole rundown. Luckily, I have a lot of friends who weren’t cool growing up, but who are really cool now, so they read a lot of comic books. So I would just call and ask them, and they would send me all of this stuff online, and I got to read a bunch of the old comic books. It’s fortunate, because it’s a takeoff [of] the comic book, it’s not the exactly storyline of the comic book.”
Captain America: The Winter Soldier allegedly begins shooting on April 1. It will be in theaters the following year. Stay tuned for more details!
- We have a general idea of the direction of the Marvel movies. But when it comes to DC Comics – and Batman, specifically – there are far more questions than answers.
Will the Dark Knight get a standalone film? Will he be part of the planned Justice League of America movie?
Fans turned to an unconventional source to drum up speculation. The Web site Fusible listed a slew of URLs registered recently that could point to the existence of a future Batman project – everything from “Batman Arkham Universe” to “Batman Arkham Origins.”
Now, the use of the word “Arkham” leads us to believe that this has more to do with the next chapter in the popular Batman video game series as opposed to a movie. Then again, if Warner and DC are looking for inspiration for a story for the next Batman film, they couldn’t do much better than Arkham Asylum, which was a fantastic game with a great storyline. Either way, the Bat wheels are spinning. We shall see what comes of it.
