Fanboy Fix: 'Batman 4,' 'The Crowe' Remake and Mysterious Neill Blomkamp Viral

Christian Bale Says 'The Dark Knight Rises' Is His Final Batman

This isn't exactly surprising news since we figured Christian Bale and some of his Batman co-stars were signed to a three-picture deal from the get-go, which means The Dark Knight Rises will put an end to their commitment to this franchise. But while promoting The Fighter over the weekend, folks wanted to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. When asked whether this would be the final Batman movie for him, Bale responded, "I believe, unless Chris [Nolan] says different, this will be the last time I'm playing Batman," later adding, "Until Chris tells me, I don't believe it, It's gotta be from his mouth, or else I don't really know." Christian Bale
Christopher Nolan negotiates his deals movie to movie, so it sounds like unless he commits to a fourth Batman film (which is highly unlikely), Bale will not be returning to the role. Would you rather see the Batman franchise continue on the big screen following The Dark Knight Rises, or on television?
Mark Wahlberg Not Starring in 'The Crow' Remake
We reported awhile back that Mark Wahlberg was in discussions to lead a brand new remake of The Crow, which was a 1994 film that starred Brandon Lee as a murdered man who returns from the dead to exact revenge upon the people who killed his fiancé. However, while doing press for The Fighter, he told Cinematical that he won't be taking on the project. ""They talked to me about it and there was a director attached who I was a fan of, and he's no longer doing it. We just thought about it – 'is there something cool to be done there?' But we're not committed to making the movie." Oh well – there goes our chance of seeing Wahlberg in way too much face make-up.
Mysterious Viral Video from 'District 9' Director Surfaces
No one seems to know exactly what this video is except that it popped up in an iPad edition of the newest Wired magazine before being uploaded to YouTube for everyone to see. It came with the notation that it was from Neill Blomkamp, who directed District 9, and if you watch it you'll see it has those same "home video/found footage" qualities that the director utilized with last year's big sci-fi hit.
In the video, we see a couple of people stumble upon what looks to be a genetically mutated creature dead on the side of the road, and stamped with 18.12 and an AGM Heartland logo. That logo was recently trademarked with this description: "Entertainment services by way of an online website with video, audio and textual content and images featuring characters and storylines about a fictional genetic engineering company that produces genetically engineered and altered organisms."
So what is this? Is it online viral for Blomkamp's next film? Seems like it, right? Check out the video below (courtesy of Slashfilm) and let us know what you think.

Batman 4 would be nice. Nolan has really taken this franchise and ran with it. i am really excited to see what he does with Superman. As for Marky Mark and the Crow....why mess with perfection. I am already a little peeved that they are making a remake of True Grit. that is John Wayne greatness, and should have been left alone. yes, it looks good, but you just don't remake John Wayne films. What's next? The Quiet Man? The Crow was Brandon Lee's legacy just like Enter the Dragon was Bruce Lee's. Don't remake it. leave it alone.

Christian Bale does a fine job as Batman, but I think that too many of you are discounting the job Michael Keaton did in the role. He had that edge that made you think he might just be a little psycho; I think that he probably would have gotten more cred on the job if Nicholson hadn't eaten up the screen. Ledger's take on the Joker was totally different than that of Nicholson as well, playing more to the psychopathic nature of the character which I think was more in keeping with the feel of the comic book/graphic novel character. Actually, if you've read the graphic novels, these two come across as two sides of the same coin - both of them have obvious "issues", they just deal with them in different ways.

I miss the Batman animated series on television (not the one with the kid batman in the hi-tech suit), but the movies should continue only if they treat the movies and characters seriously.

A distraction for batman. One more person for bats to jump in front of a bullet for. If they do think of adding Robin to the cast, kill him off early in the movie to give batman more fuel for his rage. Sorry I was long winded. Oh. Crow remake = bad idea. Let it be. It was good enough as is, Mark Walburg wouldn't do it justice.

Cars that light up, and costumes with nipples are not batman. They are more Buttman. As far as the joker... Nicholson portrayed the joker most people had come to know, based on Ceasar Romero and the like. He was a clown first, killer second. Ledger was the Joker that the hard core fans wanted. A killer that happened to LOOK like a clown. If they could combine those two characters, I think the ******* child of the two would be the accurate joker. Someone who likes to kill with comedy. Also, I like the raspy voice that Bale gave bats. For one, it entices fear. It also masks his normal voice which some people would have caught on to eventually. As far as Robin being an improvement to the series, I disagree. Robin is and always will be...

I'd like to generally comment to this post and respond to a few posters. No offense meant at all anyone. I for one have seen every batman movie, at least one episode of each animated rendition, and used to watch the Adam West version. Alas, I never got into the comics or graphic novels, but I do know a lil about them. I liked the Burton directed Batman movies. Back in the days when they came out, it's what people wanted from a batman movie. Once the helm was given away and they tried making the movie a comedy, they killed it. Nolan (in my opinion) captured the true essence of what the batman is. A normal person who decided to take the law into his own hands. Batman is NOT a rock star, he doesn't like being in the spotlight.

I love the first two Bale/Nolan Batman movies and am sure the third will be equally as awesome! I i will be sad to see that end, but will understand if it does. I am cool with more flicks but hope the tone of these most recent films is kept. I would not be opposed to a Bats and Supes movie at some point in time I agree they should team up in a live action film, but only if they can make it worthwhile. So Don't Rush it! Glad that Wahlberg is not doing Crow remake. There should be no Crow remake it will only ruin it as the sequels could have if the first wasn't so damn good and them so bad. As for the preview it looks like it could be another killer flick.

Keep the Batman Movies coming and if they are on shows it has to be animation. Batman, batman beyond all the batman cartoons i've seen have always been great. even the animated batman movies are Great my favorite was Batman Under The Red Hood. Christian Bale should continue playing batman as he has done a Perfect job. I love the way they make the batman movies with all the darkness and shadows because that is how batman operates. just like in the cartoon. Keep the Batman Movies coming and ill keep on going to watch them and own them.

I hope they don't remake "The Crow," but if they do I hope they use the same ring. I really like the movie and had a surprise when my husband and I watched it the second time. The ring he gave me when we first got together was the same design as the one on the movie. We didn't notice it the first time we saw the movie, but on DVD we got to pause and compare it.

i LOVE these Batman flicks... but i'm also a huge fan of Chris' other flicks. if he has another "Inception" up his sleeve, i REALLY wanna see it. ALSO, Nolan isn't going to be the last great director on the planet. others will follow. he did an extraordinary interpretation of Batman. but let's not assume that he's going to be the last great director, of Batman or anything else.

I like the batman series, but they shouldn't make another one after this movie is over. They should just end it while they are still ahead (still too early to say whether the 3rd movie is good or bad). In the meantime, I'm excited for Neills new movie and can't wait for it to show more...

Totally disagree with those that think a TV series wouldn't be the best route after the 3rd Batman. It would be phenomenal if done by the right producer/director combo and let's not forget, Batman hit the small screen...successfully for years before ever coming to the big screen. On The Crow, I'm not sure why Wahlberg would have even been a consideration being that he will be 40 next year and Eric Draven's character was in his twenty's.

i can understand this possibly being the last picture franchise for Chris Nolan and Chris Bale and I look forward to see what happens in the story and characters. But i thought there was a rumor running around out there that Chris Nolan was working with Warner Brothers and DC as the executive producer for the next Superman franchise which I believe is leading towards a Superman/Batman movie and possibly a justice League Movie. If that i the case will Christian bale take up the reign of the dark knight in this franchise offspring or will it be taken up by supposedly Josh Duhamel of Las Vegas and Transformers? What does Hollywood reporters decree of this stuff?

Although Smith is a great director, and huge comic book fan, I'm not too sure he wouldn't fudge up the format by making it too comic-like, or too campy as he primarily does comedies, right?

It's a billion dollar franchise. Why would they only do 3? As long as Nolan remains the creative genius behind it, they should do a couple more. Money will persuade all involved. Why only make millions when you can hit the billion?

With all of the new television series coming out a live action Batman on TV would probably be more welcome than people are suggesting it will. I see the series mainly as a movie only due to the graphic nature of the 'new' direction the films have been leading us, though television much like The walking dead etc. is becoming more graphic as well. Jan. a new series hits, and could potentially be a landmark/ benchmark for possibly moving the series back to television. As many have said the animated series was a great addition, I agree, so if they were to move it to TV then with today's tech would probably make it just as interesting as a movie version at least I would hope so,if not then movies are best like Bale has been the best as Batman!
