We've known it was coming for awhile now, we just didn't know when and where. Today, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which just recently announced expansion to San Francisco, Colorado, North Austin, Ashburn and Virginia, has followed that news up with word that it's finally coming to New York City. The most surprising part of this news is in its location, which will be the old Metro Theater at 100th street and Broadway, and not in some hipster-ish Brooklyn neighborhood, where most thought it would wind up.

Instead it's traveling to a neighborhood that's a bit off the tourist-fueled map, though it makes sense in that Alamo founder Tim League likes to bring his Alamo Drafthouse awesomeness to old movie houses because, to him, it's not just about watching movies, but where and how you watch the movies that completes the experience. That's why his theater chain is thriving right now, and we're real curious to see what kind of impact it has on the New York City moviegoing scene.
