Al Pacino is set to portray the late college football icon Joe Paterno in a film that will chronicle the life of a man who became the winning-est coach in college football history only to see his reputation come crashing down amid a rape scandal involving someone on his coaching staff.

Deadline reports that ICM Partners will begin shopping the movie around town with Pacino's name headlining and Rick Nicita, Pacino's manager, producing.

Paterno was ultimately fired and died shortly after the scandal involving his former defensive co-ordinator Jerry Sandusky, broke. Sandusky was found guilty on 45 counts of sexual abuse against young boys and is expected to spend the rest of his life in prison.

We've seen Pacino play a fictional head coach in Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday. Do you think he can pull off portraying one of the most well-known college football coaches ever?

I guess I understand what Lori is saying (barely), but I doubt they're just trying to reap the benefits of this case she acts like the people who thought the Oliver Stone film World Trade Center was doing the same thing she thinks this is doing. Plus wanting to tell a story of a bad man is nothing new, and it's nothing to get upset about.

Lori is right on every point! just the idea of this makes me nauseous. I'm not that surprised that someone would exploit this story for their own gain... but Al Pacino? I just lost a ton of respect that washout

I think this is sickening! Enough already ,who gets to reak the benefits of this money rolling in? You already punished the football team, for something they had nothing to do with or no knowledge of.Once again the people who are guilty in this scandal will all get paid! Why is it that Penn state football team has so many fines and things taken away from them, while the piece of crap rapist family still collect his pension?Same with Joe Paterno's family ,he was fired why are they getting to collect his pension? This is one fucked up world ,where we punishe the innocent(Penn State football players) and reward the guilty!!!!
