  • Oh No!

    LA Phil LIve Mahler 8

You should have refunded the ticket price.

THe sound was like a cheap stereo coming through an apartment walll - distant and not very loud.

Limited dynamics and fequency range - we could see musicians playing or singing but not hear them - low notes almost completely gone and limtied high frequencies.

THe video was fine - minor pixelization on straight lines that were barely visible from my seat about 2/3s back in the theater.

I will not be attending an LA Phil Live program again (I am a season ticket holder at Disney - I joyfully pay $100 a seat there, but will never spend another $20 to see the LA Phil in a theater.

    WHAT A RIPOFF!!

    Not what I was expecting

This was my first time experiencing a concert screening in a movie theater, and I was very much looking forward to seeing Mahler 8 performed by Gustavo Dudamel. This symphony was the first Mahler symphony that I heard on recording with Bernstein and NY Phil, and have loved it ever since, but never had the opportunity to see it until yesterday.

The experience, however, was overall disappointing. While I can say the performance was supreme, being shown on screen and with speakers somehow diminished the experience. The most upsetting part was the sound quality; it just doesn't compare to that of being in the symphony hall.

While I am glad I had the opportunity to experience this symphony in a more live setting than listening to it on my speakers, I'm quite certain that I'm never going to opt to see a screening of a concert in theaters again.
