Davy Crockett, Disney Revisionist History
Having not seen this movie in its synthesized form, remembering only the three one-hour installments on 'Disneyland' back in the mid-50's, I suppose I expected a 'best-of' version of the Davy Crockett legend. What I got was an amazingly racist rendition of what passed as 'history' way back when. Indians, Mexicans and Brits were portrayed as savages, cannon fodder and twits respectively. Even raccoons were seen merely as head decorations. That said, there were moments of recollection that gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes, conjuring up my long ago childhood. Lo these many years later I could still sing along with every word of every verse of the Davy Crockett song.
