Canvas is not a DaVinci but quite possibly a Jackson Pollock.

Okay, it might not be flashy, but it is a deeply moving story that engages the viewer with a sentisive and empathic perpective of mental illness. If you haven't been exposed to the humanity of the concept of "the mentally ill," this movie will give you "insight." It won't be as highly celebbrated as "A Beautiful Mind," or "One Flew Over the Cokoos Nest," but it is less "Hollywood," and more reality based. I do feel the director and the writer would have focused more on the schizophrenic mother, her time in the hospital, her treatment with the psychiatrist, etc, than spending so much time on the son. All in all, if you want to grow a little this Fall, watch "Canvas," and gain some insight into an illness that if it won't effect you directly, will in all probablility, touch someone you know.

Joe Greco and this outstanding cast tell us a story that, unfortunately, is a very common one in so many families, living with someone who suffers from mental illness. They all do an excellent job of showing us the reality of the shame that comes with it, while also giving us hope for the future. The young actors are just wonderful, too. Everyone has someone they know or love who suffers from some type of mental illness and this movie brings it out in the open in a very loving way. It's as good as "group therapy." Tell all your friends not to miss it. Bring the family, too.

Excellent acting and a very timely story that gets little direct personal coverage. Really brought this hard reality to life.
I like the actors very much and the story line is something that all of us need to be aware of. It was hard to watch at times because it was heart wrenching. A difficult subject done in a very humane, heart warming way with excellent acting. I recommend it if you like these actors and a story of raw emotion.
