Bunraku is the bomb diggity
Just let go, and realize that this movie is being shot as if it were a slightly more sophisticated stage play. The sets are not realistic, but effective nonetheless. Whatever the critics say, it is well-executed. A great cast, a strong cast, really brings this ethno-ecclectic tale of the lone warrior with a mission together. In this case, there are two lone warriors, but their stories blend and coincide so as to better the story, as opposed to distract it. It is West meets East Kabuki, and it entertains to the very end. If you enjoy kung-fu/martial arts movies, manga-turned-hollywood, or Westerns, then you will thoroughly enjoy this movie. Think Moulin Rouge meets the Magnificent Seven?Japanese and American, but only two. And without guns, but some really awesome fight scenes. Guns are never missed, to be sure.
