Another case where bad filming ruins a good story
I am going to cut Mulburry Street some slack. The fact that this movie was accomplished with such a low budget is pretty neat.
The idea is solid; Manhattan is being shut down and quarantined after sewer rats begin spreading a sickness, turning your friendly neighbors into zombie-like rat people. Sounds lame, but the idea gives a decent spin to the typical zombie movie. These zombies cannot see well, have excellent hearing, and can crawl through building structures.
This movie also gets you very connected to the characters. It takes awhile for the movie to get rolling, but once it does, you actually care about the people dying.
However, this story is ruined by trying to incorporate too many "touchy" themes, including homosexuality and the war in Iraq. Couple that with a director who films everything from impossible-to-see angles with little explanation and exaggerating every emotion, you get a pretty dull, and as some audience members moaned "completely awful" movie
