    THE All-TIME BEST COMEDY HORROR

Some people believe Mel Brooks' YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN to be the best in film history to date, but for my money it is the team of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello who not only revived their own careers in 1948 but the Universal Monsters' franchise as well with this very brilliant brew that mixes fun right in along with fright. Brooks lovingly lampooned the genre with his admittedly hilarious film, but director Charles T. Barton knew the ghouls had to play it straight to not only stay in tone with the previous entries but to also get the most from integrating the comic duo's famous bits and word-play. This film is a non-stop stream of jokes, gags and scares as the boys unwittingly become involved in helping Dracula ( Bela Lugosi, in his only other cinematic bite at the role that made him famous ) revive the Frankenstein monster after Lou becomes a candidate for a brain donor!! Sounds ridiculous, but it works sublimely well - and the final chase/moster showdown in the castle is without equal!!
