The Princess and the Frog. Grade: A. (Based on advance VIP press preview - Sat. 5th. Dec. 2009)

Written December 09, 2009
Disney's The Princess and the Frog is a 95 minute modern-day re-imagining of a traditional fairy-tale. Lovingly and painstakingly hand-drawn, this latest animated feature pays homage to Disney's classic animated tales in terms of gorgeous PANTONE color-coordinated and matched scenes, heroic gutsy female protagonist, and cute creatures/characters. The first half of the movie steadily unfolded contrasting the latter half's frenetic let's-try-to-fit-as-much-as-we-can gumbo mix. Still, the competent directing by Ron Clemens and John Musker kept the engaging story flowing along breezily. The excellent voice-cast featured the talented Anika Noni Rose, John Goodman, Bruno Campos, Oprah Winfrey, Jenifer Lewis, Jim Cummings, Michael-Leon Wooley, Terrence Howard, Keith David, Jennifer Cody, etc. Randy Newman's music = wonderful!!! VERDICT: Highly Recommended. You don't have to be a child to appreciate Disney's latest animated savory treat filled with positive messages.

A Princess Movie Not for Little Ones!!

Wonderful Disney has finally added a black Princess to their repetoire. Whether it is a stereotypical depiction -- or whether there should be a black Prince too -- others can debate. What totally bums me is the way Disney always promotes these movies for "All Ages" and then crams into the film, huge amounts of horror and violence which any little one's brain could not possibly fathom. In order to get her "princess fix," does my 4-year-old really need to have the wits scared outta her? She need to be subjected to the dread of a giant needle ready to gouge out the body of a man turned voodoo doll? As she is in the age group where all on the screen is real, and she vividly imagines herself as the heroine, does she need to be put thru being hunted by evil spirit shadows or tortured by men weilding jagged-edged instruments? When I think how Disney can make a Princess movie that cannot be watched by its Princess-loving age group without undo psychological stress, I am dumbfounded.

It's important to rise above the negativity and superficiality to appreciate the movie for what it is. It's an inspiring piece of work, and all haters should be ashamed of themselves...
