Seriously, that's it? Not really that great. Falls flat. Certainly not worth the hype or 20 bucks to go see. It's a RENTAL. It's not terrible, I just expected a better movie. It's Cloverfield in the country circa 1980 with little kids. It's extremely weak for Abrams and Spielberg! Abrams should stick to TV, Star Trek was great, but Cloverfield was terrible. This leans towards Cloverfield. Pretty sucky which is a huge bummer. I really wanted this to be great. I hope Abrams isn't turning into M. Night Shyamalan. Wait for it on DVD.

Super 8 - I Give it a 10

Super 8 blended a good story about the strength of family and friendship set in the late 1970s with a healthy dose of fantasy and science fiction. Seeing that both Spielberg and JJ Abrams figured in this film hinted that the viewer would be well entertained. The characters were well cast especially Elle Fanning and the other actors who played the young people's roles. Ms. Fanning gave an outstanding performance. The sound track really brings home the feel of the 1970s era as do certain items such as the Walkman scene. This film will appeal to most viewers but young children might be frightened at parts where characters and figures appear suddently without warning or be overwhelmed by the sounds of loud noises. One needs to stay and watch the film through the credits to reap the full benefit of the meaning of the film. I saw this film on a large screen and felt like a part of the film. Nothing beats the feeling. I rate Super 8 a big 10. Go see it!

Another exercise in patience from J.J. Abrams

This director's favorite style seems to be: "Leave it to their imagination, and give 'em a little pay-off at the end." His movies and TV shows are fantastic at raising curiosity and questions... but forget to entertain along the way. I for one am tired of it. Super 8 is no different... the majority of the movie plays like a coming of age tale, with just enough snippets of action and alien attack sprinkled in to keep you in your seat. the payoff doesn't come until the last 20 minutes or so. Not a bad movie, but not worthy of having Spielberg's name attached to it... it's an overhyped E.T. re-do with a PG-13 rating, and less heart. Think "Lost" + "E.T."+ Cloverfield, minus the shaky cam shooting.

Not for Kids!

I am not sure why this seems to be marketed twords kids? It have very foul language from young children (the F-word) and the (p-word) used the entire movie, it is realy gorey and violent in many parts and the monster is terrifing even for adults. My 8 yr old boy asked to leave half way through. It just shows a total lack of imagination and self control on the producers part, it didn't need any of those things to make the movie, it was a great story with great actors, it is just a shame that this is what they think the public wants?

Super 8 or Super Flop???

I just finished watching Super 8 and I have to honestly say I don't know what to think about this movie. The idea of the movie was incredible as well as the CGI, but at times it just felt like a darker version of E.T or the Goonies. Now don't get me wrong I don't think the movie was horrible I enjoyed it, but I can honestly say its not the greatest movie I have seen this year so far. Which makes me wonder was it actually a good movie or just a flop, check it out and decide for yourself, I just don't think this movie was for everyone.
