Today in Movie Culture: Marvel Cinematic Universe Recap, ’Iron Man' vs. ‘Batman,’ ‘Us’ in Claymation and More

Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture:

Franchise Recap of the Day:

We’re less than two weeks from the release of Avengers: Endgame, and that might not be enough time for you to catch up with or revisit all the 21 installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of time. Fortunately, ScreenRant has a recap of the franchise to get you ready for the epic new sequel:

Mashup of the Day:

Whatever happens in Avengers: Endgame, one thing we definitely won’t be seeing is a crossover between Marvel and DC characters (maybe in a few years when Disney buys Warner Bros…). But while we’re not going to see Iron Man fight Batman on screen, that isn’t stopping StryderHD from wondering who would win, if they could battle in a movie:

Movie Science of the Day:

Heard any good fan theories about Avengers: Endgame? Maybe one virally shared idea about how Ant-Man could defeat Thanos in a very gross manner? To get to the, uh, bottom of whether not this assault would actually work, scientifically, is none other than StarTalk’s Neil deGrasse-Tyson and fellow astrophysicist Charles Liu:

Filmmaker in Focus:

Claire Denis’ High Life, a sci-fi drama starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche, is now playing in limited release. For the occasion, editor Luis Azevedo has created a video essay for Little White Lies that puts the spotlight on Denis and her movies to explore what makes them so unique:

VFX Breakdown of the Day:

Laika’s Missing Link opened over the weekend with some of the animation studio’s most acclaimed craftsmanship on display. In this video from Insider, the movie’s director, Chris Butler, discusses all the work that went into producing the stop-motion adventure and breaks down how the characters were made and given life:

Cosplay of the Day:

Would the new Hellboy reboot have been a bigger hit had it starred only cats? Who knows, but this cat cosplaying as the titular comic book antihero would have even the feline-loving character excited about the prospect:

Easter Eggs of the Day:

Jordan Peele’s Us is the kind of movie that invites multiple viewings, not just for clearer understanding of the story and its themes but also for all the hidden movie references and other Easter eggs. For CZs World, Zac Morris details everything he caught the second time he went to see the hit new horror movie:

Fan Art of the Day:

Speaking of Us, the movie is still inspiring incredible fan art after four weeks in theaters. The images below are of two alternate fan posters for the movie created by claymation artist and stop-motion filmmaker Trent Shy.

Character Guide of the Day:

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is coming out in less than a month, and tickets for the movie are now on sale — catch ‘em for your favorite local theater. While you wait for the release, you should become acquainted with all the Pokémon that will be appearing on screen in this video game adaptation, including those not seen in the trailers. Here’s such a guide from ChrisCrossMedia:

Fan Theory of the Day:

Now that you have the supporting Pokémon in the movie sorted out, it’s time to talk about the main Pokémon, the titular Detective Pikachu himself. Does the little guy have a secret identity to be revealed in a plot twist in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu? Some fans have a theory about why this particular Pikachu has an adult man’s voice, and in the following episode of Film Theory, MatPat attempts to get to the bottom of the possibility:
