Make Oh-So-Awesome Cookies from 'Home'

In Dreamworks new animated feature Home, the Boov are an alien race in search of a new place to settle down. When the human girl, Tip, and the banished Boov, Oh, become unlikely friends, one thing’s for sure, their intergalactic road trip will be far from ordinary.

There’s nothing that can bring two interplanetary species together quite like cookies. Why, cookies might as well be the universal symbol for peace. These purple cookies are sweet and cheerful just like Oh, complete with playful taffy ears. Make up a batch for your own road trip to see Home in theaters!

Home Oh Cookies

(makes 18)

ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

pinch of salt

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

purple food gel dye

black icing

white icing

blue sparkle gel

9 pieces purple taffy

Directions:

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar.

Add the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture.

Add a few drops of purple food gel dye and stir.

Slowly add the flour mixture until combined. The flour will lighten the color, so add more food gel dye if necessary.

Mix on medium high until the dough pulls away from the bowl.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge.

When you are ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prep baking sheets with silpats.

Roll out the dough to 1” thick. Use a 4” heart cutter to cut out shapes. Cut a half-circle across the base of the heart, cutting off the point.

Move the cookies to the prepped baking sheets and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.

With a #2 tip pipe the outline of Oh’s mouth with black icing.

Add three teeth with a #3 tip and white icing and pipe two eyes on each side of the head.

Place a large drop of blue sparkle gel onto the white icing, then add a drop of black icing into the center of the blue gel eye for the pupil.

Fill in the rest of the mouth with black icing.

Cut the taffy in half, one for each ear. Stretch the taffy and roll into a twist resembling Oh’s ears. Place on both sides of the cookie head.
