Luke Skywalker's lightsaber plays a key role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but that's not the only weapon that he wielded in the original trilogy. Even though it was derided as "clumsy or random" by Obi Wan-Kenobi, Luke's blaster pistol proved to be very handy when he needed to stealthily search for his buddy Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.
Now you can own Luke's blaster pistol, as long as you have $300,000 to spare. As Daily Express reported, that's the expected selling price for the item, which is up for sale via auction in Los Angeles. The seller, Nate D. Sanders, says the blaster pistol was gifted by Mark Hamill to a young boy in the U.K. after the two filmed a scene for the British children's television show Jim'll Fix It.
In Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Han Solo told Luke: "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." As it happens, Han's original blaster pistol, which was based on a Mauser automatic pistol used by the Germans during World War I and World War II, was lost and so another blaster pistol was made from the original's cast.
For those concerned about safety, don't worry: the blaster pistol doesn't fire. It never did; it was only used for nonfiring scenes. As far as comparable pieces are concerned, the smaller blaster pistol used by Han Solo in the fifth and sixth installments of the series sold at auction for a somewhat lower price, while Luke Skywalker's original lightsaber sold for $240,000.
The auction runs through January 28.
