You know these movies are coming, but we've got new details to share on Black Panther 2, Wonder Woman 2 and Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune:
Black Panther 2 is definitely happening
Although no official announcement has been made, we can be sure there'll be a Black Panther sequel. It's inevitable given how much money the first one is making. Also, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige just confirmed the plans to Entertainment Weekly. He said:
We absolutely will do that. One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two. There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.
Feige also addressed the fans' desires for Black Panther spin-offs specifically starring the characters played by Letitia Wright and Danai Gurira:
I think there’s lots of potential. It’s a balance between leaving people wanting more and then giving them too much, but I would watch a movie about any of those characters you just named. I think Shuri’s astounding, and you’ll see much more of her in our universe. Okoye, I think I’d watch three action films [with] just Okoye. I’m not saying we’re doing that, but I’m saying that we’re intrigued by them. Frankly, as I’ve said before, finishing these first 22 movies is really all we’re thinking about at this point.
As for the rest of Marvel's future plans, you can read the rest of the interview at EW to find out how much Wakanda you'll see in Avengers: Infinity War, how '90s action movies are inspiring Captain Marvel, what Feige thinks of X-Men and Fantasic Four properties coming to the MCU and more.
Kristen Wiig confirmed for Wonder Woman 2
Last week we heard that Kristen Wiig was in talks to play the main villain in Wonder Woman 2, and now director Patty Jenkins has confirmed the casting. Wiig will portray one of Wonder Woman's primary nemeses, Cheetah, a character you can learn more about here.
So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot pic.twitter.com/Gn0jICiIAH— Patty Jenkins (@PattyJenks) March 9, 2018
In addition to Jenkins' tweet, Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot retweeted the excitement with some of her own, stating: "I’m SO excited welcome on board Kristen! This is going to be WONDERful!"
Denis Villeneuve is planning more Dune
Before the release of Blade Runner 2049 last year, director Denis Villeneuve was confirmed to be making a new adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune. The classic sci-fi novel was previously turned into a feature film by David Lynch in the 1980s and then as a three-part Syfy miniseries in 2000. Now, Villeneuve says his "goal is to make two films, maybe more." This was revealed at an event in Quebec (relayed by The Playlist), where the filmmaker also said, "Dune will probably take two years to make."
