It's quietly the most anticipated upcoming prequel series, and we say "quietly" because so far we haven't seen much from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter prequel, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
That is... until now.
Warner Bros. has released the title treatment (see above) and first images from next year's film, due out November 18, 2016 and based on Rowling's 2001 encyclopedia beastanica), and they show a dashing Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a world-famous magizoologist. The first Fantastic Beasts (ah yes, this will indeed launch a new franchise) will track Scamander's beastly adventures in 1920s New York. In addition to Redmayne as Scamender, the above image also introduces Katherine Waterston as Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, Alison Sudol and Queenie Goldstein, and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski.
According to EW, Scamander -- complete with briefcase and wizarding wand -- is standing at the entrance of the Magical Congress of the United States of America (or MACUSA), which "is the American version of the Ministry of Magic that’s housed inside the Woolworth Building in the film."
Scamander's roots should be real familiar to Potter fans as the beast expert graduated from Hogwarts and joined the Ministry of Magic. He was eventually transferred to the Beast Division, due to his extensive knowledge of, well, beasts, and was eventually commissioned to write a guide to said beasts called, well, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Everything else -- including those fantastic beasts and other neat little Potter nods -- are being kept under lock and key for now, but here are some more images of Redmayne and the cast to hold you over till the first trailer hits.
