Zero Dark Thirty: Matt's Take-
Kathryn Bigelow should be admired as a director for many reasons. To this date, she is the only Oscar-winning, female director, and she also knows how to work behind a camera. Although I enjoyed her award-winning The Hurt Locker, I feel like Zero Dark Thirty is the more dominant film between the two. I do not find her films perfect, because I feel like they tend to lack character development, but I believe that she is one of the finest directors on the modern war that is taking place. Zero Dark Thirty works good as a CIA film as it unveils all of the unknown operations and complex events that took place up to the sacking of Bin Laden, but Jessica Chastain's lead performance is what makes the movie great. Chastain carries all of the weight here, and, to our surprise, she gives a hell of a performance on her own. Katheryn Bigelow's finest directing takes place towards the nerve-jarring end of the film, but the final frame of Chastain is her best work . (Four Stars out of Five Stars)
