    Roll Over and Play Dead

Molly Shannon's performance is good but her character is just so not loveable. All the good will that she builds up in the beginning of the film quickly vanishes during the rest of the movie. The movie drones on and overall I left not wanting a dog of my own.

    Weird Tone

Year of the Dog is all about loving the animals. But you can't tell whether the filmmaker Mike White really loves the animals, or is making fun of the people who love the animals. Molly Shannon and Peter Saarsgard are amazing, though.

MUST SEE>>>if you are an animal lover.

This movie was the best I had seen in a long time. I am vegan and I proudly support this movie. This is a very thought provoking movie spiced with some excellent comedic talent. It will make you realize the value of all life.

    original

just because a movie doesn't have the usual formula of guns and *** doesn't mean it isn't bad. on the contrary, this is a movie with an original story and a well-developed protagonist, and it also doesn't follow the usual hollywood cliches whereby a female lead must ultimately fall in love in order to find happiness. a great movie, with great performances!

    Funny...not!

Ths is not a comedy, black or otherwise. While my heart is in the same place as the movie's seems to be, i.e. opposed to animal cruelty, the film goes too far, trying to answer unanswerable problems with strained attempts at humour that are only embarrasing. It is pedantic and preachy. A totally unpleasant experience.

    Not what I was expecting...

In some ways, this reminded me somewhat of Happy Feet - the story of the dancing penguins. Another case of "oh, by the way, let me be beat you with this message about global warming". In this case, substitute dogs for penguins, and treatment of animals for global warming, and let's call it a day. While there were pleasant moments, especially with Regina King, I wouldn't recommend it. Could Peter Sarsgaard play a less sympathetic carrier?

what the heck was that crud?

It was terrible! I left a third of the way through it. I think I left a little too late. I f you want to learn a good depressing story, this is still not the right movie for you. It was a terrible depressing movie. For your own good, don't see it. Your day will become very boring. Trust me!

    Touching and sad

If you are expecting a light hearted comedy this movie is not for you. It requires a box of tissues followed by a vegetarian meal. Very emotional and touching. Excellent performance by Molly Shannon.
