Two actors are locked in a quiet battle over who will star in a big-budget movie in this comedy from director Andreas Dresen. Otto Kullberg (Henry Hubchen) is a talented and popular actor who has been cast in the leading role of a romantic drama called "Tango For Three." Otto is also a notorious alcoholic who often shows up on set brutally hung over, and when Otto doesn't arrive at all one morning, director Martin Telleck (Sylvester Groth) bows to the demands of his producers and brings in another actor to serve as Otto's understudy, Arno Runge (Markus Hering), who is younger and more reliable. When word gets back to Otto about Arno's presence on the set, the star is suddenly on his best behavior and determined to show Martin and the producer he can still do the work. As Otto and Arno battle over who will appear in the final cut, the female lead Bettina (Corinna Harfouch) finds herself torn -- she's married to Martin, used to be involved with Otto, and now finds herself attracted to Arno. Elsewhere on the set, Melanie (Karina Plachetka), Martin's assistant, has fallen for one of the cameramen, but he's also attracted the eye of one of the actresses, manipulative Heike (Valery Tscheplanowa).
